Great Wall Motors V240 Review

The Competition is completely pushed on the wayside as no other ute can ever come close to the price of the petrol-powered V240 WD, which starts at $26,990. But the bigger question bugging the minds of Australian drivers is whether they are getting the upper hand or not if they go for these China-made utes.

The V240 draws some semblance to the Rodeo although you can't find even a single aspect where they are exactly similar. We may probably describe the overall look and design of this Great Wall wheeler as Rodeo-inspired. And if you really dig a ute with rock-bottom price, then at $26,990, the V240 2WD is your runaway choice.

The Great Wall Motors V240 is powered by a 2.4 litre petrol engine and equipped with dual airbags and anti-lock brake system. However, you may have to seriously consider the safety profile of this ute as it is only good for 2 stars out of the possible 5 star rating for crash performance by the ANCAP. Nonetheless, Great Walls Motor safety engineers assure that improvements are underway.

Initially, the V240 comes off as an impressive ute. However, it is wise for you to do a thorough sweep of all the cabin instruments to make sure that everything is in perfect working condition.

The glam leather upholstered seats are standard features of the V240 although you may find the back seat a tad compressed. Headroom is also not the brightest spot of the V240 and the short, firm lower cushion is not helping it even by a bit. If it be might considered as some consolation, other utes also fare miserably in this aspect.

Engine performance at best is rated average. It is low on torque and seems to lack sufficient •push' regardless of the revs. The V240 also lands on the lower end of scale when it comes to drivability and road handling performance. Driving one gives you the same experience when driving crew cab ute of years back. This is definitely one of the major trade-offs when you decide to go for this lower priced ute.
